Who TF is Becca?

Graduating with student loans

I am Becca of house Student Loans, Breaker of Budgets, Mother of Money Problems, Queen of Coupons, and Protector of the Piggy Bank. But you can just call me Becca!

So here’s the deal. I have ALOT of student loans.

I graduated in June of 2019 with a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from South College in Knoxville, TN. It’s been a journey. A really, really, EXPENSIVE journey. After getting my bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees I’ve stacked up $121,563.89 in student loans.

$121,563.89!!

You know what you could do with $121,563.89?

  • If you stack up 121,000 one dollar bills it would tower 43 feet tall. That’s as tall as a Brachiosaurus!
  • Uhh 240,000 Jack in the Box tacos.
  • You can literally buy an island. Like really though. Look it up. And then invite me.

Why I Became a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT)

Why become a DPT when with that kind of money I could be sitting on my own island in the Bahamas eating Jack in the Box tacos?

I became a Physical Therapist because I love to help people.

I love interacting with people from all walks of life with all different goals for recovery. Patients often arrive to PT at a time in their life where they are in pain, confused and fearful of the activities they can and cannot do.

I believe that Physical Therapy is an amazing profession that helps reduce patient’s pain, optimize their function and reach their goals. I love that I have the skill set to be able to empower my patients to live healthy, active and independent lifestyles.

You Know Nothing Jon Snow

And neither do I. I’m starting from square one. I have no financial background or certifications. I just want to pay off my student loans and encourage others to do the same. That’s the whole point of this blog!

I do have a small team of family and friends helping me out. They have been through the process before and can offer expertise and advice. Plus they love to nerd out on this stuff so I’ll pass along all of the good nerdspeak I hear.

I’ll show you what I’m doing and if it’s working. From goal setting to budget planning to refinancing to whatever comes my way, I’ll be here to encourage you and I appreciate any encouragement from you! (Thanks mom!)

What You Can Expect From Me

I will be posting about my progress and any tips and techniques I use. I’ll post encouragement on my insta. Not only will you get fascinating financial updates but I may even talk about something I actually know about! I’ll sprinkle in some physical therapy stretches, best practices, exercises and healthy recipes.
